VAN VEEN

Recommended:
Over the universe CD 1989

Easily in the top 10 most difficult to find Japanese indie glam CDs over the last 10-15 years.  Great album too, well worth searching for if you enjoy good Japanese hard rock/glam.

VEILED IN SCARLET
Japanese Melodic Death Metal
2000s

Kick-ass melodic, technical old-school influenced death metal.  Everything from early 90s Death, Dark Tranquility to In Flames (early- when they were good) can be picked up here. These guys are one of the most badass death metal bands tearing through the Japanese metal circuit scenes over the last few years.

VOW WOW (also known as BOW WOW)
Japanese Hard Rock
1980s
Recommended:
Beat of Metal Motion CD 1984
Cyclone CD 1985
III CD 1986
Revive CD 1987
V CD 1987
Vibe CD 1988
Mountain Top CD 1990

Everyone has their favorites.  But if you ask me, Vow Wow was Japan’s finest export.  Even better than Loundess at their apex in the 80s.  Vow Wow delivered a brand of western-friendly AOR infused hard rock that would appeal to fans of late 80s Pretty Maids, Talisman (debut) and Glory (first album), albeit, with a bit more punch than Glory. Their lead vocalist (Genki Hitomi) was miles above the majority of other Japanese singers (fluent English, and a truly awesome style, recalling Ronnie Atkins at times). If you’re curious about Japanese hard rock/metal from the 80s, this band is a great place to start.
